Project GOAL: The goal of the Ayr Pump Track Committee is to have a permanent, free to use, multi-use, asphalt pump track constructed in a central location within the town of Ayr. We are targeting a size of 20,000 sq ft and roughly 200m in length What is a Pump Track? A pump track is designed for all things on wheels. From mountain bikes to BMX’s, skateboards and even wheelchairs, a pump track is a playground for all wheels. By combining rolling jumps with turns they are accessible for all. When ridden correctly, using a pumping motion with your arms and legs, you can gain speed without the need to pedal or push. Why do we need a Pump Track? Pump tracks promote healthy, active, outdoor lifestyles Pump tracks are used in a variety of ways including skateboarding, BMX biking, inline skating, scooter riding and even wheelchairs! Pump tracks offer recreational opportunities for groups that can be difficult to serve (i.e. not everyone enjoys traditional team sports; it offers a low cost...
We now have a location! It took some convincing on my side but The Township has settled on Jim Schmidt Memorial Park. This is the location that our committee has been advocating for since day 1. This location is central to the most populated areas of Ayr and will maximize the utilization of the facility once completed. Schmidt Park is located at 53 Hilltop Drive Ayr and is directly beside Cedar Creek Public school and neighbours the Ayr Fire Hall. The park has a covered pavilion with washrooms, 2 baseball diamonds, 3 tennis courts, open green space, a walking path with shade structures and a new playground. The Pump Track will be a fantastic addition!
The ride-a-thon has been cancelled due to lack of participant interest... :( We are planning a fundraising event as part of the Ayr 200 Celebrations Saturday Aug 3. It will be a 200 minute Ride-A-Thon event where participants will collect pledge donations prior to the event. Prize raffle tickets will be given to those that raise a minimum $50. For each $25 raised in addition to the base $50 the participant will gain 1 more entry. For example, $100 raised = 3 raffle tickets. The grand prize will be a new Radio BMX bike!
